Before beginning to enter search criteria on the Search Here page please review these helpful guidelines. Select TYPE(s) of property first. Note: Though Lease appears as an option, residential properties for rent or lease are not customarily listed in the MLS
IMPORTANT: Select COUNTY next — then the Area and City categories are limited to only those located in the county chosen.
Before attempting to select Area(s) please review the Area Boundaries chart. These were created by the local MLS — Bay Area Real Estate Information Services (BAREIS) — for use by its member agents and can be very useful in creating well-targeted property searches. However, few public sites include the AREA category since these designations are unfamiliar to the general public. But, since I prefer to offer you more possibilities than might be needed rather than less, I’ve included AREA for you to use if you’d like. Hopefully you will find it useful. If not, don’t worry, you can also just leave this option blank. A few words about the CITY category:
First of all, City does include the surrounding rural areas beyond the city’s limits. But, using just City names can sometimes yield less than optimal results when looking for country property. For instance, many properties that seem to be in unincorporated villages in the west county such as Graton, Freestone, and Occidental have Sebastopol addresses ― if you are interested in just these communities and use only their ‘city’ names in your search you could actually be excluding possibilities that meet your criteria. On the other hand, using CITY = Sebastopol will exclude the listings in those areas that do have one of these village postal addresses. I recommend using the Sebastopol AREA (rather than city) in this instance.
