ASK’s MLS Search is unique. It’s the only public site that allows searches of Sonoma County by AREA -- using the geographic parameters that local agents employ -- with no need for zip codes or the confusion of searching rural areas by city names. But using this method requires a bit of guidance, so please review these tips first.
Review Area Boundaries before going to MLS Search. These Areas, created by the Sonoma County multiple listing service, reflect natural community boundaries more accurately than city names or zip codes do. Note: Area descriptions are limited to Sonoma County, since ASK only serves this county.
Begin your search by selecting COUNTY first -- this will limit the AREA and CITY choices to only those located in the chosen county. In Sonoma County searching by AREA(s) will likely produce the most useful results, as the area boundaries correspond to naturally occurring community separators and do a better job than CITY of bundling geographically related communities.

CITY includes country properties outside the city limits, but using City names often produces less than optimal results, particularly when looking in rural areas. For example, in many instances properties that appear to be in an unincorporated City in the west county such as Occidental, Freestone, or Graton actually have Sebastopol addresses ― so if you’re interested in properties in one of these communities and use its City name in your search you could actually be excluding possibilities that might match your criteria. On the other hand, using CITY = Sebastopol will exclude listings in those same communities that do have a City postal address -- so in instances such as this we recommend using the Sebastopol AREA and leave the CITY category blank. Similar issues affect the communities along the Russian River, which are all unincorporated, making it difficult to predict where one community ends and the next begins for purposes of choosing a CITY name to search by.
